Background __ampersandsign Aim: The eruption of the mandibular third molar can be a troublesome experience for many individuals. It is considered as one of the most unpredictable events in dentistry due to its varied onset and rate of eruption. The main objective of this study was to provide tools for the prediction of the evolution of the mandibular wisdom tooth and its prognostic factors. Material and Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive and analytical study conducted among 71 patients (52 females and 19 males) with a total number of 138 studied third lower teeth. Linear and angular measurements were made in panoramic radiographs and lateral cephalograms and were classified into two groups: Group 0: impacted lower wisdom teeth and Group1: erupted lower wisdom teeth. The measurements made on panoramic radiographs were the 3rd lower molar/2nd lower molar angle (LM3/LM2 angle), the 3rd lower molar/lower edge of mandibula angle (LM3/mandibular edge angle), retro-molar space (RMS), the 3rd lower molar mesio-distal diameter (LM3d), and the ratio retro-molar space/3rd molar mesio-distal diameter (RMS/LM3d ratio). The measurements made on lateral cephalograms were the ANB and GoGnSN angles. Results: Following the assessment of the study’s sample, the main significant elements to be considered in the prediction of wisdom teeth’s eruption were the RMS/LM3d ratio, the LM3/LM2 angle and the retro-molar space (RMS). Conclusion: All orthodontic treatment plans, even precocious, should imperatively take into consideration the wisdom teeth, integrate them in the initial treatment plan and the patients should be informed about their prognostic.
