Abstract:
HHV-6 encephalitis is a serious complication after stem cell transplantation which is sporadically caused by human herpes virus 6 (HHV-6) reactivation. It causes neuropsychiatric disorders and cognitive impairment. The mortality rate remains high, even among survivors many patients are affected negatively. We report the case of a 41 years old woman who developed an acute limbic encaphalitis after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for acute myeloblastic leukemia. Through a literature review we discuss the clinical, radiological, and therapeutic aspects of this uncommon condition.
